Retention Pond Mowing
Retention ponds are an artificially made pond or basin that accumulates both storm water and water run-off. Their design allows them to support emergent and submergent aquatic vegetation along their shoreline. Retention Ponds maintain the quality of urban runoff from residential zones, and surrounding areas. Runoff from each rain event is contained and treated in the pool; this process promotes pollutant removal. The surrounding vegetation keeps the pond from eroding; however, it is important to keep the vegetation trimmed back enough to a manageable height.
Why We Mow
The vegetation area around the pond can become overgrown and needs to be consistently maintained for the pond to function properly. Retention ponds can sometimes require weekly maintenance. However, it is important to make sure a certain amount of vegetation isn’t over trimmed, as it is vital in collecting pollutants from runoff before it reaches the pond.
Detention Pond Mowing
Detention ponds hold water, but only for a short period of time. These ponds capture storm water and or run off and briefly hold it before entering the stream. Their water level is managed by an orifice at the bottom of the basin, allowing the water to drain out completely. Detention ponds are generally dry, after water has moved through them. However, it is still vital to take proper care of the lawn and vegetation that surrounds the Detention Pond.
Why We Mow
The lawn around Detention Ponds need consistent mowing to maintain the functionality of the pond itself. Although there are clear differences between Retention and Detention ponds, both need the same style of lawn care. They require the right equipment that can efficiently and effectively cut grass on such steep banks.
